International Fair Trade Association

IFAT (International Fair Trade Association) is an association that deals with fair trade. It was established in 1989 and is a global association of about 300 fair trade organizations from over 60 countries. Members are producers 'and associations' cooperatives, export marketing companies, importers, retailers, regional networks and organizations that support fair trade. 65% of the members are in the South (in Asia, Africa and Latin America) and the rest in Europe, North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The objective of IFAT is to improve the livelihoods and well-being of disadvantaged producers, by offering its members assistance and services to improve their knowledge of world markets, by committing to establish contacts with international trade organizations to ensure that they adopt fair rules in trade.
