On May 1st, was born July 20, 1889, in Paris. Sounding the idea is the congress of the Second International, meeting in those days in the French capital, when going to decide on the date, the choice falls on May 1st. A symbolic choice: three years before in fact, May 1, 1886, a large demonstration that took place workers in Chicago have been violently repressed. On May 1st, 1886 fell on a Saturday, then the working day, but in twelve thousand factories in the United States 400 000 workers walked out. Only in Chicago went on strike and took part in the big parade in 80 thousand. Everything went peacefully, but in the days following strikes and demonstrations continued in major cities and industrial American tension became more acute.
